VIRGINIA H. DAFLER, age 85, of Brighton Gardens, 2601 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC, and formerly of Eaton, OH, and Bradenton, FL, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006. Born on April 26, 1921, in Preble County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Richard Goodwin and Edith (Brubaker) Handley. She graduated from Lanier Twp. School in 1939 and Miami University of Ohio, Oxford, OH in 1943 with a BS in Business Studies and in 1958 with a MA in Education. She taught school and later served as a Guidance Counselor for many years in Preble County, OH, at Lanier HS, Jackson HS, and Eaton HS. After moving to Bradenton. FL, in 1976, she taught Business courses at Manatee County Community College. She is a member of The Lutheran Church Of The Epiphany in Winston-Salem, NC. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Dafler, Jr, in 1999, and her brother, Rolland B. Handley in 2003.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra D. and William M. Hildebolt of Winston-Salem, NC, and Ann D. and John B. Exline of Gahanna, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Richard J. and Christy B. Dafler, Findlay, OH; Grandchildren: William H. and Daphne Hildebolt, New York, NY; Joseph R. Hildebolt, Winston-Salem, NC; Amy D. and Jared Meaux, Dallas, TX; Adam C. Exline, Kenyon, OH, Elizabeth A. Exline, Bethesda, MD, Katherine A. Exline, Houston, TX, and Andrew B. Exline, Gahanna, OH; Great Grandchildren: Hannah and Hazen Hildebolt, New York, NY, and Elise Meaux, Dallas, TX; Nieces and Nephews.

The family gratefully thanks the staff of the Special Care Unit at Brighton Gardens for their love, kindness and concern for our mother during her long illness. All of you are the embodiment of the words “special care.” You were more than her caregivers, you were her extended family.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, at 10:30 a.m. at Barnes Funeral Home - 220 East Main Street - Eaton, OH with her nephew, Pastor Ronald Dafler, officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Gratis, OH.
