Roy K. Planck, 93 formerly of Eaton & Preble County, Ohio died Monday, March 19th at his son’s home in Corona, California. Roy was born on June 23, 1924 in Waynesville, Ohio the son of the late Ross & Jennie (Griffey) Planck.
Roy retired in 1986 as a Vice President with the Society Bank Corp of Dayton, OH. He was a graduate of the Ohio School of Banking, Ohio University and The Graduate School of Banking of University of Wisconsin.
Possessed with a strong desire to fly or play professional baseball, he found these dreams altered while flying combat as an airplane Armorer Gunner with the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II in the European Theater of Operations. On his 48th Bombing Mission, he was critically wounded and forced to return to the United States. He received a Purple Heart and the Air Medal.
Though he became a church member he regarded religion a farce and a waste of time. Through a miraculous spiritual encounter with Jesus Christ, life took on a new dimension both spiritually and physically. Since that experience Roy had shared in many churches, FGBMFI – Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International meetings and appeared as a guest with Demos Sharkarian on Good News Television. He previously served for ten years as FGBMFI State Treasurer for Ohio, and the Treasurer for the Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana Annual Convention.
Roy was a member of Eaton Church of the Brethren, DAV Chapter 9 of Dayton and the Air Force Association.
Preceded in death by his wife of 70 years: Eleanor J. (Creech) Planck in 2014; 4 Brothers: Robert, William, Lewis and Wayne Planck and 5 sisters: Mary Peterson, Merle Rottman, Ada Howard, Dasiey Martin and Mabel Starr. Survived by son & daughter-in-law: James K. & Connie Planck of Corona, CA; 2 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Nieces and Nephews.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, OH. The funeral service will be held 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria, OH. Military honors by the Preble County Honor Guard. Memorial Contributions may be made to DAV.
