Naomi M. Shock

Naomi M. Shock age 86 of Lady Lake, FL, formerly of New Paris, OH passed away at home on Thursday, April 14, 2022. Naomi was born at home on November 1, 1935, to Guy and Oneda Daugherty, the eldest of three children. Her father was a farmer and she helped him with farm chores, rode her pony, and enjoyed the social aspects of school. She graduated from New Madison High School in 1953 and began working for Flagg Lumber Company. In 1956, she married Robert (Gus) Shock and in 1960 they settled in their house south of New Paris that would be her home for more than 58 years. Besides rearing their three children, Naomi worked several jobs over the years: ran the local office of the motor vehicle license bureau out of her home in the early 1970s, was retail clerk at fabric stores, was bank teller at Eaton Loan and Home Aid, Citizens Federal, and Wayne County Federal Credit Union, and did bookkeeping for Riegel Feed & Grain. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout Troop leader, sewed clothes for her family, maintained a garden and preserved the produce, and took family camping trips, and later in life she traveled to Europe, Australia, Hawaii, Canada and across the US. Other pursuits included quilting, basket weaving, collecting antiques, dancing at various local venues, volunteering as an usher at Civic Hall Performing Arts Center and Richmond Civic Theatre, and participating in Red Hat Society chapters in Eaton and New Paris. She always enjoyed hearing or telling a good joke.

She was preceded in death by husband Robert E. “Gus” Shock in 1989, daughter Tammy J. Shock in 2012, her parents, and brother Keith Daugherty.

She is survived by son: Scott Shock of Richmond, Indiana, daughter: Teresa Shock (Craig Wilhelm) of Kansas City, Missouri, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister Wilma Stump of Woodstock, Georgia, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends.
