Lola Jane Shafer

Lola Jane Shafer, 92, of Eaton, Ohio, died Friday, February 23, 2024 at Vancrest of Eaton. Born on August 7, 1931 in New Paris, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Elmer L. & Lena Ann (Juday) Harshman.

Lola was a School Teacher for the C.R. Coblentz school district, retiring in 1979 after 14 years of service. She and her husband Lowell farmed and ran a grain and tile business for many years. She was a 1949 graduate of Jefferson Township High School and graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a degree in Education. She was a member of Preble County Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Red Hatters of Eaton, Ohio, member and past board member of the Preble County Council on Aging and the Area Agency on Aging and in 2007 was named the Preble County Citizen of the Year. She attended Concord Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husbands: Darrell C. Pence in 1975 and Lowell L. Shafer in 2003; Siblings: Joseph and Eddie Harshman, Evelyn Petry, Mary Ann Pond, and Marjorie Casort; Son-in-law, Arthur Cox.

Survived by her Daughters: Ellen S. Cox, Pamela J. (Glen) Blacker, Karen M. (Greg) Kern and Roberta A. (Michael) Mann; Grandchildren: Eric (Ashley) Cox, Sara (John) Williamson, Melissa Weston, Levi Mann, Tyler Mann, Holly (Ryan) Frase, Laura (Chris) Bauman, and Brandon (Sky) Kern; Several Great Grandchildren, and one Great-great grandchild; Nieces and Nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio, followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Rodney Dunn officiating. The interment will be held in Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio, immediately following.
