Kenneth D. Root, age 83 of Lewisburg, Ohio, died Thursday, June 29, 2023 at his residence. Born on November 2, 1939 in Lewisburg, Ohio, he was the son of the late Russell & Martha (Tapalman) Root.

Kenny was a proud member of the 1957 class of Lewisburg Union High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1961. He worked at Vindale/Benchmark (Brookville) for 30 years where he was a Production Manager, The Village of Lewisburg for 10 years, Harrison Township for 1 year, driving cars for 2 years for Jerry Moore, Eaton City Schools for 5 years mowing grass (which was his favorite job) Lewisburg Cemetery 2 years and finished it off being grandma’s taxi.

His memberships included the American Legion at West Manchester, OH, The Grand Lodge of F & AM, Grand council Royal & Select Mason of OH, Libanus Lodge 80 Lewisburg, Camden Lodge 159, Preble Council 135, Eaton Chapter #22, Jerusalem Commandery #75 Eaton, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, 32 Degree 21 Club 2nd Masonic District. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 3288- Brookville, OH and the DAV 104 Lewisburg, OH.           

Kenny had an extra special relationship with his grandsons, Aaron Seery and Matthew Seery. They were not only his grandsons, but his best friends. You would find him calling them often, hanging out and or going to sporting or Nascar events. They were always there for anything he needed or wanted. He also had a special relationship with his nephew, Joseph Heck who spent a lot of time with him, Tony and Aaron going to races, sporting events and hanging out while growing up. He was an avid Nascar and Cleveland Browns fan. He especially enjoyed playing cards with his “card buddies” who held a special place in his heart. He loved his family endlessly.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, his wife, Phyllis D. Root on January 3, 2015, infant brother Eugene Root in 1934, sisters Glenora Wolfe in 2013 and Betty Schmidt in 2014, brother Glen Root in 2018, daughter in law Desiree Seery in 2012, grandson Keith Allen Seery in 2014, great Grandson, Jacob Collins in 2002, nieces and nephews.

Survivors include, his 9 children, Anthony (Donna) Root, Patrick Seery, Marilyn Bourne, Robert Seery, Sue Ellen Boggs, Lisa Seery, Donald Seery, Patricia (Jeff) Garner, Dixie (Roger) Kier, and sister-in-law Susan Heck. Also included, 24 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and many special friends.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Barnes Funeral Home, 411 N. Commerce Street, Lewisburg, Ohio with Rev. David O. Justis officiating. Interment will be held in Roselawn, Lewisburg, Ohio with military honors by the Preble County Honor Guard. Family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Masonic Service at 12:45 P.M. prior to service.
