Geneva J. McCollum

Geneva J. McCollum, a woman of deep faith and tireless devotion to her family, after a lengthy illness, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 27, 2026, at the age of 91. Geneva was born on October 4, 1934 to Henry D. and Elsie J. (Blankenship) Matney and raised in the mountains of West Virginia. She was a loving sister to 5 brothers and 6 sisters.

The cornerstone of Geneva’s life was her 71-year marriage to her beloved husband, Earnest McCollum. A woman with a servant’s heart, Geneva was a long-time, faithful member of The First Missionary Baptist Church of Lewisburg. Her faith was not just something she practiced on Sundays; it was reflected in her life and decades of service to others. For over 20 years, she was a familiar and friendly face at the Dayton Christian School Thrift Shop, where she volunteered her time and energy to support her community.

Geneva’s greatest legacy remains her family. She was a devoted mother to Greg (Nena), Steve (Angie), Scott (Melissa) and Joni McCollum. She took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to 7 and a great-grandmother to 9, cherishing every milestone and moment spent with the generations that followed her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Dennis, Dewey, Jr. and Larry Matney and her grandson, Brent R. “Buddy” Noggle.

Survived by her Husband, Earnest; her children; her siblings, Kathleen Vance, Mildred “Jo” Smith, Charles Matney, Helen Marshall, Patricia Lacy, Carl “Doug” Matney, Carol Sue Spivey and Donna Marker; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of dear friends.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Lewisburg Baptist Church, 608 North Commerce Street, Lewisburg with Pastor Dane Driver officiating. Interment will be held in Roselawn Cemetery in Lewisburg. The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the church.
