Albert Eugene Brown, aged 102, of Lewisburg, Ohio, passed away on August 8, 2025, at Wood Glen Alzheimer’s Community in Dayton, Ohio. Born on December 30, 1922, in Lewisburg, he was the son of the late Cebary G. and Grace F. (Kunkle) Brown.
Albert dedicated 32 and a half years to NCR in Dayton, retiring in 1978. A proud graduate of Lewisburg High School, Class of 1941, he was drafted into the U.S. Army on January 30, 1943. After training in anti-aircraft, he transferred to the infantry where his path led him through military camps across the eastern United States and ultimately to the frontlines. In August 1944, he bravely embarked on overseas service in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. He was wounded in action on November 6, 1944, receiving the Purple Heart shortly thereafter. Following his hospitalization in England, he was listed as missing in action in Germany before enduring a month as a prisoner of war at the Limburg Prison Camp. Albert returned to the Lewisburg community in April 1945 and served in several capacities until his honorable discharge on November 16, 1945.
A devoted founding, charter, and last surviving member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 104 for over 50 years, Albert contributed significantly as Treasurer for more than 46 years, along with other roles including Service Officer and Sergeant-at-Arms. On his centennial birthday, he was honored with multiple proclamations and awards from various organizations and received a folded American flag that had flown over the capital in his honor. His dedication to honoring the memory of those who served was evident in his role overseeing the placement of flags on veterans' graves in Roselawn and Lower Lewisburg Cemeteries, ensuring they were remembered with dignity. Albert proudly participated in the laying of wreaths for Wreaths Across America and represented Prisoners of War (POW) at the Memorial Day Service at the Dayton National Cemetery.
Albert was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, Preble County Historical Society and Trinity Church of Lewisburg.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Adeline (Koogler) Brown, who passed in 2018; his daughter, Gail Ann Nellis, who left us in 2024; as well as his siblings Howard (Mildred), Chester L.
