Virgie M. Pendergrass

VIRGIE M. PENDERGRASS, age 82, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, died Friday, January 14, 2011, at the Vancrest Healthcare Center in Eaton, Ohio. She was born on August 28, 1928, in Booneville, Kentucky, daughter of the late Bradley and Minnie (Barrett) Dean. On October 31, 1946, Virgie married Estill Pendergrass and shortly after they moved to Fairfield, Ohio to raise their children. Virgie loved to cook and worked her entire life to serve others. She was employed at the Eaton Manor Restaurant; Canteen Food Services at the Diebold Safe Company where she was manager of the cafeteria, and the Highland Dairy Bar in Fairfield until her retirement at the age of 65. Virgie was a faithful member and servant of the Paducah Avenue Baptist Church in Fairfield. She will be missed by many friends and relatives as one who was always thinking of the needs of others. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Estill in 2005 and her sister: Hilda Dean.

Virgie is survived by her five children: Louise (James) Barnes, of Camden, Ohio; Estill (Mary) Pendergrass, Jr., of Oxford, Ohio; Joan (Paul) Eversole of Eaton; Evelyn (Johnny) Shannon of Somerville, Ohio, and Ricky Pendergrass of Hamilton; brother, Carl Dean of Kentucky; two half brothers and one half sister; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Nein – Barnes Funeral Home, 249 N. Main St., Camden, Ohio with Pastor Douglas Rose officiating. Interment will be held in Butler Memorial Park near Trenton, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
