ROBERT WOODROW BARNES, age 86 of Eaton, Ohio died Saturday, December 18, 1999 at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton. Born on April 4, 1913 in Gnadenhutten, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, he was the son of the late L.P. & Amelia (Miller) Barnes. He was the former Owner/Operator of the family owned Barnes Funeral Homes, Inc. He received his Ohio Funeral Directors license in 1933 and has been active in the business for 66 years; member of the Ohio Embalmers Association; Ohio and National Funeral Directors Associations; a 1931 Eaton High School graduate and a 1932 Cincinnati College of Embalming graduate; served as Corporal in the 147th Infantry Ohio National Guard from 1930 - 1940; he was a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association as a Registered Official in Football and Basketball from 1933 - 1953 and had refereed many High School games in the Miami Valley; He joined the Eaton Volunteer Fireman in 1947 and retired as Captain in December of 1982; of the 35 ½ years with the Fire Department, he served 33 ½ years as Secretary/Treasurer; 53 year member of the Eaton Lions Club where he served as Secretary (1948-1953), President (1955-1956), Zone Chairman (1950-1951) Key Member in 1951, Advanced Key member in 1964, Life Member in 1990 and Melvin Jones Fellow in 1994; Charter and Life Member of Fraternal Order of Eagles - Aerie # 2202, Eaton, Ohio; member of Bolivar Lodge #82 F.& A.M. - Eaton; Order of Eastern Star - Gleaners Chapter #182 - West Alexandria, OH; Life Member of Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton; member of The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio #22 - Eaton, OH; member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Eaton serving on several committees over the years; served as Preble County Jury Commissioner for several years . Preceded in death by Wife: Marydale (Fuhrman-Ryman) Barnes in 1994; Brothers: Edward Cecil Barnes in 1918, Paul Francis Barnes in 1960; Walter Miller Barnes in 1991; Sisters: Florence May Becker in 1987; Grace Louise Hogan in 1989, Mary Ann Phares in 1999.

Survived by Sons & Daughters-in-law: Robert C. & Sharon J. Barnes and Bruce L. & Rayna E. Barnes all of Eaton; Grandchildren: Brian R. & Erin M. Barnes, Stephen A. & Lori R. Barnes, all of Lewisburg, OH, Michael H. Barnes, Eaton, OH; William W. Barnes, Fairfield, OH; Julie A. Barnes, Eaton, OH; Great Grandchildren: Matthew, Christina, Logan and Lorin Barnes, all of Lewisburg, OH. Many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 1999 - 11:00 A.M. at Barnes Funeral Home -220 East Main Street - Eaton, Ohio with Rev. Thomas H. Maxedon, Jr. & Rev. Richard VanTine officiating. Interment will be in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 21, 1999 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home with Eaton Lions Club service at 7:00 p.m. and Masonic service at 7:15 p.m.
