Richard E. & Karen A. Shiverdecker

Richard E. Shiverdecker, 71 and his wife of 48 years Karen A. (Todd) Shiverdecker, 65 of Lewisburg, OH, died Wednesday, October 2, 2019 after a traffic accident on Interstate 70 near the Ohio Indiana state line. 

Richard was born on March 5, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late Robert & Lois (Riley) Shiverdecker. He was a 1966 Twin Valley North High School graduate and served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam War, Member of American Legion and life member of the NRA. He retired from General Motors in Moraine after 30 years. Preceded in death by a brother: Daniel Shiverdecker in 1976. Richard was able to fix anything. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Whether going to sporting events; horse shows; or driving long distances to attend grandparents day, Richard could be counted on to be there. Richard and Karen will be deeply missed. 

Karen was born on February 15, 1954 in Troy, Ohio the daughter of the late Emmett & Vera (Sparks) Todd. She had worked at Lewisburg Container for several years. Karen was a kind and loving mother who doted on her grandchildren. She found joy in caring for others and was welcoming to all who met her. She was known for striking up long conversations with folks she just met and staying up late at night to chat with her son and daughter's friends. On Summer days you would find her tending to her beautiful flowers.

Survivors include: children: Ryan E. & Angel M. Shiverdecker of Arcanum, OH and Ronda & Greg Dillon of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren: Marah Dillon, Dustin Shiverdecker and Tiffany Shiverdecker; great grandson: Eli Shiverdecker. Richard’s sister: Catherine Shiverdecker; Karen’s siblings: Patricia (Orville) Parker, James (Carol) Todd, Ron Todd, Ed (Sandy) Todd and Thomas (Angie) Todd, many nieces and nephews. 

Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Barnes Funeral Home 411 N. Commerce St. Lewisburg, OH. The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pyrmont Cemetery – Brookville, OH with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard.
