Lora May Dorsey

LORA MAY DORSEY, age 97, formerly of Eaton, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She was born on August 10, 1909 in Fort Morgan, Colorado, she was the daughter of the late Orlando Franklin & Maggie Ethel (Legate) Roark. When she was three, her family moved to St. Cloud, Florida. Her mother died when she was four. She went to live with their Aunt Ada Brookshire near Paducah, Kentucky until her father remarried five years later at which time she went to live in Detroit, Michigan. There she met her future husband. She was married to James Boyd “J. B.” Dorsey on May 29, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio. They lived in Michigan until 1932 at which time they moved to Lizemore, West Virginia. They lived there for almost 15 years during which time they had 9 children. In 1947, they moved to Eaton, Ohio and had two more children. She lived in Eaton until 2001 at which time she went to live with her daughter, Julia Ann Kestner in Florida. In 2006, she moved to the Emerald Coast Center in Florida. Lora May was a homemaker all her life. She had a garden every year for 49 years and canned hundreds of quarts of food each year. She enjoyed sewing and quilting especially for children. In later years, she worked as a nurses aide at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio and at nursing homes in the Eaton area. She was an active member of First Church of the Nazarene in Eaton, Ohio for many years, participating in Sunday School, Missionary Society, and church affairs.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years: James Boyd “J.B.” Dorsey in 1991; son: Thad Dorsey in 1990.

Survived by sons & daughters-in-law: Lincoln & Helen Dorsey of Palm Coast, Florida, Rand Dorsey of Tokyo, Japan, Jim & Cheryl Dorsey of Naples, Florida, and Danny Dorsey of Dayton, Ohio; daughters & sons-in-law: Lois & Charles Regi of Dry Run, Pennsylvania, Joy & Raymond Combs of Rutland, Ohio, Marie & Louis Graham of Nashville, Tennessee, Wilma & Jim Koenig of West Alexandria, Ohio, and Julia Ann & Donald Kestner of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; sisters: Ruth Porter and Mildred Feit both of California; 24 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.

Funeral Service in Florida will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home - 113 Racetrack Road Northeast - Fort Walton Beach, Florida with Rev. Gary Jakes officiating. Funeral Service in Ohio will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at First Church of the Nazarene - 400 Lexington Avenue - Eaton, Ohio with Pastor Brian Deaton officiating. Interment will be held in Sugar Grove Cemetery in West Alexandria, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home in Florida and also one hour prior at the church in Ohio. In lieu of Flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene - Missionary Society - 400 Lexington Avenue - Eaton, Ohio 45320.
