KENNETH J. YOST, age 95, of Eaton, Ohio, died Friday, January 16, 2004 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. Born on August 19, 1908 near Eaton, Ohio he was the son of the late John Martin and Ada Jane (Brower) Yost. Kenny was a 1926 graduate of Dixon High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University in 1931. He was a member, Past President and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Eaton, Ohio. He was a member of the Eaton Rotary Club where he received the coveted Paul Harris Award for service to Rotary and the community. He was an industrial engineer and held management positions in Armco Steel Corp., DuPont, R.C.A. Corp., and Avco Manufacturing in Richmond, Indiana. He was a prolific inventor with numerous patents. He managed Yost Farms, Inc. in Preble County for many years. Kenny served five terms as Preble County Engineer during which time he developed a variety of innovative, cost-cutting approaches to county ditch construction, and bridge repair and construction. As County Engineer he pioneered the use of county employees rather than out-of-county contractors for the design, construction and maintenance of roads and bridges. He was preceded in death by first wife, Dorothy (Heckert) Yost in 1986. Step grandson: Specialist Jack Tucker died in 1997. A foster sister: Ruth Kathryn Arthur died in 1981.
Survivors include his wife of seventeen years: Mary Jeannette (Flory) Rohe Yost; Sons: Dr. Kenneth J. “Jack” and wife Pat Yost. of State College, Pennsylvania and William H. “Bill” and wife Susanne Yost of Greenwood, Indiana. 8 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren. Stepsons: George and wife Brenda Rohe of Charlotte, North Carolina and Jack and wife Louanne Rohe of Scottsdale, Arizona. Stepdaughter: Alice and husband Robert Smith of Elmhurst, Illinois. 14 Step Grandchildren, 20 Step Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services 11:30 A.M. Tuesday January 20, 2004 at Barnes Funeral Home - 220 East Main Street - Eaton, Ohio with Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9:30A.M. to 11:30A.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Mound Hill Union Cemetery in Eaton, Ohio.
