John L. Lewis

Our loving father and grandfather, John L. Lewis, age 83 of Somerville, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at 10:44 am, at McCullough-Hyde in Oxford, Ohio. John was born on April 22, 1930, in Ashers Fork, Kentucky, the son of the late Haywood and Martha Lewis. John married Myrtle "Marie" Lewis on June 20, 1953, in Richmond, Indiana. He was in the US Army from 1951-1956. He retired from Diebold Safe Company in Hamilton, Ohio after 38 years and was a member of the Taylor's Grove Baptist Church.

John is survived by three sons, Bennett Lewis and his wife Tammy, David Lewis and his wife Teresa, Rick Lewis and his wife Connie, all of Somerville; two daughters, Donna Adkins and her husband, Paul, of Hamilton and Linda McIntosh and her husband, Wes, of Somerville. Seven grandchildren, Crystal, John, Wesley, Michael, David, Jessica, and Jennifer and six great-grandchildren; Destiny, Levi, Logan, Brandon, Chloe, and Benton.

He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife, Myrtle "Marie" Lewis, six sisters; Fanny, Viola, Edna, Sybyle, Opalee and Sophia and six brothers; Ethan, Robert, Eldred, Roy, Marcus, and James, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. A special thanks to the staff of McCullough-Hyde Hospital, Dr. Terry Hunt, Heartland Hospice, Pastors Steve Wright & Burl Hogg, Somerville Fire Dept, Seven Mile/Oxford Life Squads, and many friends, neighbors and family for their support.

Visitation for John L. Lewis will be on Friday, Feb. 28 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Barnes-Nein Funeral Home, 249 N. Main Street, Camden. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 1, at the Taylor's Grove Baptist Church, 12110 Rt 227, Somerville, Ohio with Rev. Steve Wright officiating.
