Joanne Claire Patrick

Joanne Claire (Arnold) Patrick, age 87 of New Paris, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Cypress Pointe in Englewood, Ohio. Joanne, the daughter of Charles "Ernie" & Garnet Faye (Middaugh) Arnold, was born on June 16, 1926. She grew up in New Paris, Ohio, where she met her husband, James A. "Jim" Patrick. Jim was the son of Chester A. & Gladys E. (Kessler) Patrick. Joanne and Jim were members of the Jefferson High School class of 1944. Upon graduation, Jim served in the US Army during World War II. He was wounded in Lorscheid, Germany on March 15, 1945. After Jim recovered from his injuries, he and Joanne were married in New Paris on February 24, 1946. They had three daughters, Jan, Jackie and Joyce. Jim preceded Joanne in death in 2008 after 62 years of marriage.

Joanne devoted her life to caring for her husband and daughters and to helping others. She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Paris where she taught Sunday school, served as financial secretary, helped in the kitchen with numerous dinners and volunteered in the Food Pantry. Joanne was also a member of the Delta Theta Tau sorority in New Paris for many years. In addition, Joanne did the bookkeeping for Patrick's Mobil Gas Station. Jim and his brother, Tom Patrick, owned and operated this business in New Paris from 1960 to 1982.

She and her husband, Jim, spent many Saturday evenings with their Euchre Club lifetime friends having more laughs than playing cards. Joanne enjoyed watching birds, gardening, reading historical novels, cooking and listening to music. Joanne was a kind-hearted and giving wife, mother and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family and will be deeply missed.

Joanne is preceded by her husband Jim, her parents, and a great grandson, Connor Parrish.

Survivors include her daughters & sons-in-law, Jan & Robert Eighme of Oxford, Ohio, Jackie & Pat Ambuske of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Joyce & Jeff Brenneman of West Chester, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jim (Sarah) Ambuske, Joe Ambuske, John Ambuske, Lori (Sean) Parrish and Jim Brenneman; five great grandchildren, Zachary Parrish, David Parrish, Anna Parrish, Eleanor Donelson Ambuske, William Donelson Ambuske; brother & sister-in-law, Gordon & Darlene Arnold of New Paris, Ohio; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Tom & Elaine Patrick of Sebring, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 15, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Barnes Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street, New Paris, Ohio, with the funeral service to be held at 1:00 p.m., at the funeral home with Pastor Carol Duffield officiating. Interment will be in Springlawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio.
