Joan Agnes Long

Joan Agnes (Gnaedinger) Long, age 84 of Eaton, Ohio, died Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Vancrest Health Care Center. She was born on August 6, 1936 in Pocahontas, Illinois, the daughter of the late Anthony and Laura (Voegele) Gnaedinger. Joan was raised on a farm in Illinois and worked at a clock factory in Highland, IL. On May 18, 1957 Joan married her husband John and they moved to Ohio in 1970 where they lived in Englewood and Eldorado. During her time in Eldorado she worked at a local factory. Following John’s death in 1998, Joan moved to Eaton, where she worked for Meals on Wheels. Joan loved baseball, especially watching the Cincinnati Reds and as a young woman played softball. While at Vancrest, Joan enjoyed playing bingo and other games with her friends. Joan was a member of Visitation Catholic Church, where she was a member of St. Ann’s Sodality.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, John R. Long who died on January 31, 1998; her granddaughter, Elisabeth D. Long; brothers, Carl, Vincent and Richard Gnaedinger; sisters, Genevieve Winkeler and Rita Fohne. 

Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Teresa Long; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Josh Thomas; grandson, Samuel Long and his fiancée Anna Witham; brother, Donald Gnaedinger, sisters, Sharon Widman and Denise (Dennis) Stoecklin; brothers-in-law, Andrew Winkeler and Melvin (Jeanette) Long; sister-in-law, Mary Gnaedinger and many wonderful nieces and nephews. 

Our family would like to give a special “Thank You” to all the staff at Vancrest and her Hospice nurse Jean and the entire hospice staff.  

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a Private Funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Inurnment will be held in Preble Memory Gardens near West Alexandria, OH.
