James A. Jim Patrick

James A. "Jim" Patrick, age 82, of New Paris, Ohio, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Spring Meade Health Care Center in Tipp City, Ohio. Born on April 9, 1926 in New Paris, Ohio, he was the son of the late Chester A. & Gladys E. (Kessler) Patrick. Jim graduated in 1944 from Jefferson Township High School in New Paris, Ohio. Jim proudly served during World War II in the U.S. Army, 60th Infantry Regiment, Company K during the Battle of the Rhineland. He received a Purple Heart after being wounded in Lorscheid, Germany on March 15, 1945.

Jim was co-owner and operator along side his brother, Tom, of the Mobil Gas Station on the corner of Washington & Cherry Streets in New Paris from 1960 to 1982. Jim worked at Rodefeld's in Richmond from 1984 to 1998. Jim attended the St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Paris and volunteered for the Food Pantry. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in New Paris & Eaton and the American Legion in New Paris. Jim's 1944 Undefeated High School Basketball Team was inducted in the Preble County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004 and Jim was inducted individually in 2008. He enjoyed watching sports and loved his family dearly.

Preceded in death by his great grandchild, Connor Parrish in 2005.

Survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanne (Arnold) Patrick of New Paris; children & spouses, Jan & Robert Eighme of Oxford, Jackie & Pat Ambuske of New Carlisle and Joyce & Jeff Brenneman of West Chester; grandchildren, Jim (Sarah) Ambuske, Joe Ambuske, John Ambuske, Lori (Sean) Parrish and Jim Brenneman; great grandchild, Zachary Parrish; brother, Tom A. & Elaine Patrick of Sebring, Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Barnes Funeral Home, 109 West Main Street, New Paris, Ohio with Pastor Pam Weaver officiating. Interment will be held at Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio with Full Military Honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard. Family will receive friends on Friday, December 12, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. & 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Food Pantry, 301 East Main Street, New Paris, Ohio 45347 and Northwest Emergency Squad, 130 North Washington Street, New Paris, Ohio 45347.
