Emily Margaret Medearis

Emily M. (Kisling) Medearis, age 71, of Eaton, Ohio, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021, at Hospice of Dayton after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on January 4, 1950, in Richmond, Indiana, daughter of the late Donald and Fanny L. (Banis) Kisling. Emily was a lifelong resident of Eaton and touched the lives of many people in her role as a substitute teacher in Preble County. She was always thrilled to run into former students while working at Kemo’s Submarines. Emily was a 1968 graduate of Eaton High School and received her BA from Miami University in Oxford in 1982. She was an accomplished singer from an early age and sang in the community chorus and was a former member of Something Good. Emily was an avid gardener and was a member of the Alpha Garden Club; active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Eaton, where she served as the Clerk of Session and until her diagnosis was an active member of the Eaton Community and served on the planning board. In 2006 Emily was honored to be named Citizen of the Year, during Eaton’s Bicentennial celebrations.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother her spirit never wavered in her belief that she would win her battle with cancer and continue her life.  Nothing made her happier than being in her garden, playing scrabble and watching old movies with her family.  Her laugh and her good nature will be remembered by all who met her.

Preceded in death by parents Don and Fanny Kisling; brother Orval Kisling; nephew, Justin Kisling and great nephew, Elliot Cruze.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Kem Medearis; daughters Anna Horn and Sarah Stewart; grandsons Sam Stewart and Jack Stewart; brother David (Sue) Kisling; sisters Becky Kisling (Janet Crelin), Karen Kisling & Suzanne Kisling all of Eaton; Aunt, Anne Blackmore of Wadsworth, OH and Uncle Pat (Joan) Banis of Cincinnati; Special friend Tonna Ditmer; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.
