Delbert Ward

DELBERT WARD, age 83, of New Paris, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Yellow Rose Hospice of Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on March 31, 1924 in Eglon, Kentucky and is the son of the late Green & Anna (Jones) Ward. After more than 40 years of service Delbert retired from the Wayne Works bus factory in Richmond, Indiana as an assistant plant manager. He was a UAW president for many years. He was an avid sports enthusiast, loved fishing, played horseshoes, golfed, and loved the Cincinnati Reds.

Preceded in death by daughter: Sandy Stegall in 1999; son-in-law: Lee Stegall in 1997; brother: Robert F. Ward, Sr.; sisters: Maggie Lakes and Ruth Sams.

Survived by his wife of 63 years: Alma Ward of New Paris, Ohio; daughters & son-in-law: Deanna & Robert Finnan of Anaheim, California, Sharen Moore of New Paris, Ohio, and Karen (Joe Driffill) Ward of New Paris, Ohio; brothers & sister-in-laws: Albert & Donna Ward of Richmond, Indiana, Earl & Lucille Ward of Richmond, Indiana, Tommie & Judy Ward of Tennessee; sister & brother-in-law: Hazel & Glendon Hellard of Sandgap, Kentucky; grandchildren: David, Angela, Brian, Tony, Jason, & Lori; great grandchildren: Jessie, Amber, Sean, Taylor, Jynessa, Zachary, and Charli; great great granddaughter: Brianna; and several nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Barnes Funeral Home - 109 West Main Street - New Paris, Ohio with nephew, Rev. Wayne Ward officiating. Interment will be held in Springlawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, May 18, 2007 at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Memorials of charity one’s choice.
