Darlene B. Jeffers age 81 of New Paris, Ohio, died Thursday, January 21, 2021 at her residence. She was born on May 7, 1939 in Carlisle, PA.

Darlene Betty Jeffers was a faithful, strong woman who overcame many challenges in her lifetime. Her first job was at the Joplin Movie Theater where she developed a love for movies and enjoyed going to them often. She graduated from Joplin Business College. Then she worked for Eaveys Quality Foods in Richmond, In.  Where the employees there still get together for reunions. As a young mother she worked for Parents magazine. Then she started her first business decorating cakes. She was a long-time member of the Whitewater Basket Guild, and help planned numerous basket conventions. She started Darlene’s Baskets and did craft shows with her two daughters for over ten years. She wove over 2,000 baskets and attended the Ladies BSF in Richmond for over 25 years with perfect attendance for the first 17 years. She was a proud member of First Baptist Church in New Paris, Ohio. She loved her church family and was known as the ‘Candy Lady’ because she always had candy treats for the children. She was dedicated to the word of god and memorized over 100 Bible verses.

Preceded in death by her husband of 56 years: Roger A. Jeffers in 2019; and her mother: Rosa "Rosie (Bitner) Summers. 

Survived by children: Cindy (Ed) Herrmann, Rhonda (Tim) Toschlog, and Roger Paul Jeffers; grandchildren, Kevin (Shanley) Toschlog, Megan (Joey Nocton) Toschlog and Ryan (Arminda Sharpe) Herrmann; great grandchildren: Parker, Elijah and Owen; Dad: Barney Summers; sisters: Redith (Wes) DeBolt and Sue (Joe) Golob; brother: James Michael “Mike” (Barbara) Summers; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at The First Baptist Church, 6751 St. Rt. 320, New Paris, Ohio. A graveside service will be held 11:15 AM Wednesday at Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you are required to wear a facemask and maintain social distancing prior to entering the church.  

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions please be made to the First Baptist Church, 6751 St. Rt. 320, New Paris, Ohio 45347.
