ANDREW WILSON WATERHOUSE, Passing at the age of 86, Andy was a native and lifelong resident of Dayton. Born July 5, 1925 his childhood was in Dayton View, his adult life as a husband and father in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of West Dayton and he retired in Lewisburg. His wife, Margaret Marie (Street) Waterhouse who he met at the close of WWII in Roanoke, Virginia and to whom he was devoted for 42 years of marriage passed in October 1988. Andy was the youngest of eight children born to Sophia Marie (Sorensen) & Cohen Russell Waterhouse. He is survived by his eldest sister Margaret Mason of Verona; two sons, Scott of Scottsdale Arizona and Brian of Miamisburg and one daughter Andrea "Andi" Gray of New Paris. The eldest son Kenneth passed in May 2009.

One of "The Greatest Generation" Andy Waterhouse enlisted in the U.S. Navy on December 8, 1942 at the age of 17 ½. He served in combat operations aboard Navy Ship LST 470 from its commissioning until May 30, 1945. He served in eight major combat operations in the South Pacific including New Guinea and Leyte Gulf in the liberation of the Philippines where he was awarded the Purple Heart.

Andrew Waterhouse retired as Plant Superintendent after more than 40 years with Phillips Industries and its predecessor companies, Lau Industries and the Lau Blower Company.

Generous with his time and compassionate of others, Andy created a substantial extended family of the many he helped during his life.

Known as "Popoo" by his ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, Andy Waterhouse was loved, respected and will be missed by his family, friends and all who had the pleasure to know him.

Graveside Services will be held, 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, 7217 National Road, Brookville, OH 45309 with Pastor Mike Tuttle officiating and full military honors by the Preble County Honor Guard. The family expresses its sincerest thanks to the Widows Home of Dayton where Andy spent the final two years of his life. Your compassionate, understanding and professional care gave Andy a true home environment helping him remain vibrant and engaged until the end. The family asks that donations be made to the Widows Home, 50 S. Findlay St., Dayton, OH 45403, in lieu of flowers or gifts so they may extend their fine work to others.
