Walter M. Barnes, 90 of 1433 N. Adams St. Tallahassee, Fla., died Friday morning, July 12, Tallahassee Regional Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee after a brief illness. He formerly lived in Eaton and had been co-owner of Barnes Funeral Home in Eaton prior to his retirement in 1967. He was a 1919 graduate of Eaton High School, attended Miami University and was a 1921 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Embalming. He was a member of Boliver Lodge #82 F&AM of Eaton; past president of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association in 1947-1948; president of the Eaton Rotary Club from 1939-40 and its secretary-treasurer for many years; was a past Red Cross chairman for Preble County, an honorary member of Beta Theta Pi at Miami University and was past commander of the Ohio National Guard Unit of Eaton during World War II. He was a member of the Board of State of Florida Senior Citizens and had been involved as a lobbyist for Senior Citizens of Florida. He had also worked at the State Capitol in Florida.

Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Koons of Eaton and Joyce Farmer of Cincinnati; one brother, Robert W. Barnes of Eaton; one sister, Mary Phares of Eaton; six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 16 at Barnes Funeral Home - Eaton Chapel with Dr. Phillip D. Malone officiating. Burial was in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton. Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
