Marjorie Jean Mattis

Marjorie Jean Mattis, age 86, of Eaton, Ohio, died on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Vancrest Health Care Center in Eaton, Ohio. Born on April 7, 1925 in Dixon Township, Preble County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Paul & Oral Irene (Somers) Earhart.

Marjorie graduated in 1943 from Dixon Township High School and in 1947 from Miami University. She had taught at Jackson Township High School and at Lewisburg Schools. Marjorie was also a librarian at Brown Memorial Library until her retirement. Member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lewisburg, Ohio.

Preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Mattis in 1994; daughter, Julianne Mattis in 1995; sister, Shirley E. Weherley in 2010.

Survived by her children & spouses, Kathy & Danny Stevens of Eaton, Ohio, Michael Mattis of Wilmington, Ohio, Tom & Mary Ann Mattis of Colonial Heights, Virginia and Austin, Texas, Tim & Tammie Mattis of Findlay, Ohio; brother, Gordon & Eileen Earhart of Oxford, Ohio; grandchildren, Sarah & Jason Morrison, Matt Stevens, Allison & Adam Bennett, Rachel Mattis, Alex Mattis, Lillian Mattis, Kristi Mattis, and Eli Mattis; great granddaughter, Claire Bennett; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Service will be 12:00 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2011 at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio with Rev. David O. Justis and Rev. Brent L. Cavendish officiating . Interment will be held in Roselawn Cemetery in Lewisburg, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., prior to the funeral at the funeral home in Eaton on Monday.
