Kenneth L. Garrett

KENNETH L. GARRETT, age 92 of Eaton, Ohio died Friday, August 3, 2012 at Greenbriar Nursing Center in Eaton, OH. Born February 12, 1920 on a farm in Gasper Township five miles south of Eaton, he was the son of the late Charles H. & Ruth A. (Keller) Garrett. He married Kathleen Hart on December 6, 1944 and has lived in the Eaton area all of his life. Kenneth was a farmer most of his life, and also worked for Parker Hannifin Corporation in Eaton for 18 years - retiring in 1983. He had been a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Eaton for many years serving on the Finance Committee, Board of Trustees, and Pastoral Relations Committee. He also helped to organize the first Methodist softball teams and was a manager for 3 years. His community work included: Assistant 4-H club leader for 6 years, Republican Central Committeeman for 5 years, Board of Directors of the Preble County Farm Bureau for 9 years, was President of the Eaton Community Swimming Pool Board the year the pool was built, and past member of the Eaton Country Club. He enjoyed taking care of his lawn, playing golf and traveling to visit his children and grandchildren.

Preceded in death by daughter Kay Patrie in 2011; brothers: William D. Garrett in 2003 and Robert E. Garrett in 2007; sisters: Marjorie Burnett in 1975 and Elizabeth Isabell McDivitt in 2002.

Survived by wife of 67 year, Kathleen (Hart) Garrett, son & daughter-in-law Joe & Martha Garrett of Clifton, VA and daughter & son-in-law Karen & Butch Cutrell of Arvada, CO; sister, Joan G. Kreitzer of Eaton, Ohio; grandchildren: Eric Patrie, Renee (Patrie) Schuller, Daryl Patrie, Austin Patrie, Bill Garrett and Kristen Garrett, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at St. Paul United Methodist Church 120 North Maple St., Eaton, Ohio with Rev. Chris Farmer officiating. Interment will be in Mound Hill Cemetery in Eaton. Family will receive friends on Monday, August 6, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Barnes Funeral home - 220 East Main Street, Eaton, Ohio.
