HERBERT E.”Gene” RHOADES, age 65 of Lewisburg, Ohio died peacefully Sunday evening June 22, 2003 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born on February 12, 1938 in Tipp City, Ohio he was the son of the late Herbert W. & Leah I. (Kreitzer) Rhoades. He retired from Law Enforcement after 32 years having served with the following police agencies: Moraine, Centerville, Miamisburg, Carlisle, New Lebanon, Madison Twp. and retired from the Lewisburg Police Department as the Chief of Police. He served as a detective sergeant and Crime Prevention Officer with Good Samaritan Hospital Security Department. He was in the book of Who’s Who in Law Enforcement in 1990 and 1992. Past Charter member and chaplain of the Star City Lodge 117 - Fraternal Order of Police - Miamisburg; Past member and Past President of the Miami Valley Crime Prevention Association. He was a past member of the following groups: Ohio Crime Prevention Association; National Crime Prevention Association; National Association of Police Officers, Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, National Association of Chiefs of Police, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol; Antioch Shrine Mounted Patrol and the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club - Ohio Chapter III. Life Member of Floyd E. Spitler Lodge #158 - Fraternal Order of Police - Preble County, Ohio; Police & Fire Retirees FOP Lodge #44 - Dayton; 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Libanus Lodge #80 - Free and Accepted Masons of Lewisburg; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite - Valley of Dayton and was a veteran in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Preceded in death by Son: David Alan Rhoades; Daughter: Janet Tames and Granddaughter: Denise Ewing; Brother: Francis Lee Rhoades.

Survived by Wife of 25 years: Shirley L. (Goodall) Rhoades; their Children: Tina(Joe) Pett of Miamisburg, Ohio, Daniel (Sherri) Rhoades of Florida, Jana Stuck of Florida, Skip Rhoades of Eaton, Ohio, Judi (Douglas) Metzger of Springboro, Ohio, Jackie (Joseph) Ewing of Centerville, Ohio, Mary Ellen (David) Moorman of Maryland. 12 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandson.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 27, 2003 - 11:00 A.M. (Ohio Time) at Barnes Funeral Home- 411 North Commerce Street- Lewisburg, Ohio with Rev. Daniel Flory and Rev. Wesley Stiver officiating. Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 26, 2003 from 4:00 -8:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Masonic Service at 6:30 P.M. Interment will be held in Arlington Cemetery - Brookville, Ohio with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hospice of Dayton - P.O.
