John R. Shipley, 90, of Eaton, Ohio, died Wednesday evening, June 10, 2009 at Vancrest Health Care Center in Eaton. Born on February 2, 1919 in Eaton, Ohio he was the son of the late Otto M. & Carrie E. (Barnhart) Shipley. John and his brother Harry operated the DeSoto - Plymouth dealership in West Alexandria from 1941 to 1961 when the Desoto line of cars was discontinued. The car agency, know as Shipley Motor Sales, then obtained a Chrysler-Plymouth franchise and was in business unitil July 1, 1973, when the agency was sold. John served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Eaton Church of the Brethren and the American Legion Post #322 of West Alexandria, OH. Preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Viola (Patterson) Shipley in 1995 and Brothers: Harry Shipley in 1995 and Charles Shipley in 1993.
Survivors include: Son & Daughter-In-Law: John R. & Ruth Ann Shipley, Jr. of Eaton, OH and Daughter & Son-In-Law: Suzanne & Tom Scheider of Johns Creek, Ga.; Grandchildren: Jeff Cox, Jason Shipley, Jessica Shipley Morris, Carrie Schneider Shumard and Joshua Schneider; 12 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild; Special Friend: Onilee Izor of Eaton, OH.
Funeral service will be held Monday 11:00 AM - June 15, 2009 at Eaton Church of The Brethren - 813 Camden Road - Eaton, OH with Rev. Stan Van Ausdal officiating. Family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held in Mound Hill Union Cemetery in Eaton, Ohio with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post #322 of West Alexandria, OH.
